Learn BaZi in the Right Order.
BaZi becomes much easier to understand when you build the foundation first, learn how the different components interact, and only then progress into deeper interpretation and timing.
This page gives you a clear path through LearnBaZi — whether you are completely new or already studying but want a more systematic approach.
What Is BaZi?
BaZi is a traditional Chinese system that examines relationships between time, the Five Elements and the structure of a natal chart.
A BaZi chart is constructed from four pillars representing the Year, Month, Day and Hour. Together they contain eight Chinese characters — hence the name 八字 Bā Zì, or Eight Characters.
The difficult part is usually not generating the chart. It is knowing what to examine first, how the components relate to one another and which evidence matters at each stage of analysis.
Learn the Logic Behind the Method.
Build a framework rather than memorising disconnected rules.
Foundation First
Understand chart structure, elements, Stems, Branches and relationships before deeper interpretation.
Understand Why
Learn why a principle matters instead of memorising only what a rule says.
Follow a Process
Use a consistent analytical sequence so chart reading becomes more systematic and repeatable.
Apply Gradually
Progress from foundations to analysis, interpretation, timing and increasingly advanced application.
Three Stages of BaZi Learning.
Each stage builds upon the one before it.
Build the Framework
Learn the essential mechanics needed to begin looking at a chart systematically.
- Four Pillars and Day Master
- Yin and Yang
- Five Elements
- Heavenly Stems
- Earthly Branches and hidden energies
- Ten Gods
- Strong or Weak Day Master

Add the Time Dimension
Apply natal-chart knowledge to changing periods, decisions and advanced study.
- Luck Pillars
- Annual influences
- Monthly influences
- Timing
- Date selection
- Advanced analysis
What Should a Beginner Learn First?
Do not try to interpret everything at once.
Understand the Chart
Learn what the Four Pillars represent and how Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches form the chart.
Understand the Five Elements
Learn generating and controlling relationships and how elemental conditions change within a chart.
Identify the Day Master
Understand why the Day Master becomes the main reference point for many later stages of analysis.
Assess Strength
Examine season, support, roots, interactions and other factors affecting the Day Master.
Learn Relationships
Study Ten Gods, combinations, clashes and other relationships within the chart context.
Begin Bringing the Chart Together
Once the mechanics are clear, begin combining relationships, strength and chart context into meaningful analysis.
Start Using What You Learn.
Generate Your BaZi Chart
Use the LearnBaZi chart generator to familiarise yourself with the Four Pillars and natal-chart structure.
Generate a Chart →Check the Birth Time
Understand why civil time may differ from True Solar Time and why that can matter when establishing the Hour Pillar.

Strength of Day Master — Specialist Course
If Strong or Weak Day Master assessment is an area you want to study in much greater depth, this Specialist Course focuses specifically on the evidence, relationships and reasoning behind the assessment process.
Explore Strength of Day Master →You Do Not Need to Learn Everything at Once.
Strong BaZi learning comes from giving each concept a proper place within the larger framework.
Once you understand the mechanics of the chart and can make foundational assessments consistently, later study can deepen interpretation, chart synthesis, Luck Pillars, timing and other advanced applications.
The objective is not to rush through more techniques. It is to build enough understanding that each new technique has context.
Build the Foundation First.
Begin with BaZi Master Class — Level 1, then deepen individual skills through Specialist Courses as your understanding develops.
